The portal uses small-screen navigation when its viewport is narrower than 640 CSS pixels. When embedded, this means the iframe viewport, not the width of your computer screen. Widen the embed to use the desktop navigation. Grid views can also switch to a mobile layout below 640 pixels, depending on their mobile settings.
The embedded portal is displayed in mobile mode while using a computer.
