How to detect the dominant Color in Images

This automation operates by integrating with a third-party application called SightEngine.

To use it, you will need the API User ID and API Key from SightEngine, which can be saved in the API Keys section on the miniExtensions settings page:

  1. Hit the + button to add a new API key

  2. Select Sight Engine User ID

  3. Set the value under API Key value and a key name and description of your choice

  4. Repeat steps 1-3 for the Sight Engine API Key type

Set up the automation

  1. Create the Detect the Dominant Color from Images automation, then select your Airtable base and table.

  2. Select the saved Sight Engine API Key and Sight Engine User ID in the automation.

  3. Set Attachments Airtable Field to the attachment field containing your images. Only the first attachment in each record is analyzed.

  4. Create a writable text field in Airtable and select it under Dominant Color Airtable Field.

  5. Limit the run to a view containing one or two sample records, then run the automation. The result is a color code, such as a hexadecimal color value, in your chosen text field. If the color cannot be determined, the result may be UNKNOWN.
