To automatically fill today's date (and time, if enabled for the field in Airtable) when a date field is empty:

Turn on Auto fill field to today by default when empty.

1. Click on the field to open its settings
2. Go to the Advanced section
3. Turn on Auto fill field to today by default when empty.

This setting is hidden when a default value is set for the field in the Standard Options section, since it will never be empty in this case.
