You can use our 'Generate Random Numbers for Records' automation to bulk generate randomized numbers for your records.
Setup
Create a single-line text field in Airtable to hold the generated numbers or IDs. A text field is a practical choice when IDs may include letters or leading zeros.
Create this automation and select the Airtable base and table you want to use.
Select the destination under Airtable Field. Choose Generated Value Type: Numbers or Numbers and Letters.
Set Length of Generated Number/ID to the number of characters you need. If you leave it unset, the automation uses 10 characters.
Review Processing Behavior if the output field already contains values. Only choose to overwrite data you intend to replace.
In Run, limit processing to a view containing one or two test records. Run the automation and check the length and format of the values written to Airtable before processing more records.
Random values are not guaranteed to be unique. If you need an identifier that is unique to each record, consider using the Airtable record ID. Use a filtered view to generate values only when your conditions are met.
