How to generate Thumbnails for 3D-Models, PSD or Adobe Illustrator Files

Create the Generate File Previews automation, then select your Airtable base and table.

Prepare separate attachment fields for your source files and preview images.

You can use our 'Generate File Previews' automation. Here's how:

1. Select the Input Field (Files) — the attachment field containing the files you want to generate previews for. Supported file types: PSD, STL, OBJ, GLTF/GLB, and AI.

2. Select the Output Field (Previews) — the attachment field where the generated JPEG preview thumbnails will be saved (max 1024px).

3. Optional: Enable the Error Message Field and select a text field where the automation will log error messages for records that encounter processing issues (e.g., unsupported file type or file too large).

4. Set the processing behavior.

5. Run the automation.

Adobe Illustrator files must be saved with PDF compatibility enabled. Large or complex 3D files may time out even when they are below the file-size limit.

Limit the run to a view containing one or two sample records, then run the automation. Check that a usable preview appears for each file you need. If a preview is missing, check the configured error-message field.
